Jordanian authorities detained three armed men on Monday following a shootout linked to a funeral attack that killed nine people.

The violence began on Friday when gunmen opened fire during a service at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud. The location sits in Karak governorate, approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Amman. Witnesses reported the exchange lasted several minutes. In total, 49 individuals were wounded in the incident.

Jordan's Public Security Directorate stated that officers located the three suspects hiding inside an abandoned house in Karak. The men resisted surrender and returned fire against security personnel. All three suspects sustained injuries during the confrontation and were subsequently placed in custody. The directorate confirmed that no officers were hurt and that several firearms and ammunition were recovered from the scene.

The directorate described the attackers as extremist terrorists but did not name the individuals or link them to a specific Islamist group. No organization has publicly claimed responsibility for the shooting. King Abdullah ordered security forces to respond to the rare attack on the country's Christian minority with an iron fist.

Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya announced that officials are examining the factors driving young people toward extremism. He stated that anyone found to have participated in the attack would be held accountable for their actions.
