President Donald Trump endorsed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a second time on Sunday evening, posting the message on Truth Social days before Israelis head to the polls.
In the post, Trump urged Israeli voters to weigh Netanyahu's record. "When you go to the Polls please remember that Bibi has been an outstanding Warrior Prime Minister!" he wrote. He cited Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury as examples of the two leaders "winning together" and closed with "Vote for Bibi Netanyahu for Prime Minister; we have to finish the job that we started!"
The endorsement also carried a conditional on what happens if another candidate wins. "If Israel has the wrong leader, meaning anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this job itself, and I'm not inclined to do that," Trump wrote. The Jerusalem Post reported the remark referred to the confrontation with Iran.
Two American sources told The Jerusalem Post that Netanyahu and his supporters inside Trump's inner circle had been pushing for new statements of support. The same sources said "We have never seen Netanyahu like this before. He is showing signs of political desperation." An earlier Axios report said Netanyahu and Trump spoke twice over three days and that Netanyahu suggested wording for endorsements and proposed Trump speak with Israeli journalists to repeat his support. An Israeli source briefed on those contacts confirmed the prime minister made those requests.
Israel's election follows weeks of contact between the two leaders. The post arrives as voters prepare to cast ballots, with Trump's message directing support toward Netanyahu while laying out a different course for Washington if another candidate prevails.
